Abstract: The book offers a selection of articles presented during two consecutive interdisciplinary student conferences organised by the Student Research Society „The Linguist” of State University of Applied Sciences in Nowy Sącz in 2016 and 2017. The articles pursue various research interests but their common denominator is culture and its manifestations. The authors attempt to trace and explain the relationships between culture and society, on the one hand, and literature and language, on the other hand. The topics of the articles reflect the authors’ diversified interests, ranging from the image of New Russians in popular jokes, through contemporary priestly poetry to portrayals of Snow White and their cultural implications. The article by Joanna Loesch, lecturer at the Institute of Foreign Languages of State University of Applied Sciences in Nowy Sącz and keynote speaker of the conference in 2016, features prominently in the collection, providing an insightful analysis of the genre- -disappearance phenomenon within the framework of mainstream culture. The diversity of topics and approaches towards aspects of culture and language studies presented in this collection may serve as an inspiration for students and scholars alike.
